Happy International Women’s Day 2025!
We’re excited to celebrate #IWD2025 at Peppermint HQ this year! As strong advocates for women in events, we are committed to fostering equality and diversity in the workplace. With ‘People’ as a core pillar of our values, we prioritise nurturing talent within our team and promoting from within. We take pride in championing gender equality across all levels of roles at Peppermint.
This years theme for is ‘Accelerate Action’. To Accelerate Action emphasises the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres. Significant barriers to gender equality remain, yet with the right action and support, positive progress can be made for women everywhere. And one of the biggest ways to help Accelerate Action for gender equality is to Support the Supporters.
To celebrate diveristy and empowerment in aid of this years theme, we have asked a few of our Peppermint team members on the importance of International Women’s Day to them.
It’s a day to celebrate women’s achievements, recognise how far we’ve come, and get motivated to push for even more change. It’s also a great reason to give a shoutout to the incredible women who inspire me every day! Shania, sing it louder for those at the back, Let’s go, girls!
No one has directly said I couldn’t do a job because of my gender. Of course, there are challenges in any industry women will experience sexism - the typical ‘what do we know’ (eye roll). In a previous job I interviewed a reputable barrister who faced a demotion after returning to work from maternity leave. She had worked for the firm for 15 years
We all have different purposes and priorities in life and for me, my Nan was my inspiration - although my Nan was not the breadwinner, she worked tirelessly alongside my grandad to provide a stable financial footing and still provided unconditional love and care for her family which was then branched out to her grandchild in an abundance. My Nan was the glue in the family, her ‘love language’ was cooking and remembering each and every persons favourite dish and counting how many days it’s been since she last saw us.
“My advice to young women starting out in the events industry is to seek out a mentor—having someone to guide and support you can be invaluable. Gain experience across different sectors; understanding various roles will only enhance your own skills and perspective. Get involved wherever you can, say yes to opportunities, and build your network—connections are key in this industry. Most importantly, don’t be scared to put yourself out there and create opportunities for yourself. Confidence and tenacity will take you far.”
