General Manager- Riverside Stratford, London

Peppermint Events are excited to offer a rare opportunity at their brand new F+B Venue, Riverside East in Queen Elizabeth Park, London.

Based in the heart of the iconic Olympic park this venue will be re imagined to become a multi functioning destination F & B space, comprising of the large outside courtyard area which will host a rage of events from fan zones to Sunday markets all year round with innovation such as self-service Beer Taps as well as a wide range of entertainment. Food offerings will be provided by a group of curated street food traders offering varied food options from the courtyard area. The inside offering will come for a fully refurbished 2 story café / restaurant space with the ground floor serving the varied passing trade from dog walkers, runners and students with a grab and go and small but inspiring seated all day brunch style menu. Upstairs features a stunning internal space with a large roof Terrace overlooking the area, this will deliver both evening dining, weekend brunch and Sunday roasts as well as being a bookable space for events. This venue has a capacity of circa 1500 and will be open all year round with a late license available as required. Being both a food and drink lead venue with programmed entertainment across both indoor and outdoor spaces, this is a great spot for families, students and sport fans whilst being a place for the community and a destination. It will feature a large screen where live sport can be watched and host fans before attending events at the Olympic Stadium. 

The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and will report directly to the UK Venue Manager. Day to day, their role is to ensure operational and licensing procedures are being upheld to an exceptional standard, leading a team with a positive and dynamic “can do” attitude. The General Manager will lead on all tactical decision making and will be the senior decision maker on site for Peppermint. The general manager is responsible for all P+L management delivering quality customer experience. You should have strong commercial thinking and exceptional planning, organisation and collaboration skills and be experienced in managing line reports in a hospitality and events setting. 

Salary for this role is £55,000 + KPI based bonus

Key Accountabilities: 

Customer Experience and Client Management 

  • Drive the implementation of new and innovative strategies and will ensure a positive experience for all guests and increase SPH. 
  • Ensuring operations are running smoothly and in sync with one another. 
  • Communicate changes in processes to all relevant teams. 
  • Delivering the venue’s strategy and vision. 
  • Ensuring on site budget targets are being met (staffing, stock & fixed costs) 
  • To ensure that company & venue policies are being upheld. 
  • To ensure reporting to Peppermint head office is being upheld with the relevant detail for each report required 
  • Lead weekly update meetings with the Peppermint team. 
  • To control the financial performance of the business, seeking to exceed targets and margins set. 
  • Lead weekly rotas with line reports 
  • Responsible for leading stakeholder monthly and quarterly updates as required 


People and staffing 

  • Establish and maintain a high standard of staff performance and exceptional customer service. 
  • Ensure the operations team hold daily shift briefings to keep everyone informed. 
  • Ensure staffing levels are at the correct levels and to budget at all times, and people are recruited into the right roles. 
  • Develop the team to be the best that they can be. Promote from within and build a team spirit to create a happy working environment with a focus on hiring directly 
  • Oversight of recruitment & staffing procedures, with support from the head office and team that you will manage. 
  • Manage all team contracts and HR processes within the venue Peppermint team, supported by Peppermint’s Office Support. 
  • Committed to delivering the Venue’s socio-economic plans of hiring within the local area and nurturing talent to create careers for local people

Suppliers and offering  

  • Perform quality controls, implementing and monitoring team KPI’s & performance  
  • Oversight of drink menus to be seasonal, ensuring GP targets are achieved.  
  • Delivering the most suitable sustainably sourced products from supplier to customer where possible  
  • Oversight and management of all suppliers and stock management in the venue  
  • Regularly meet with the Peppermint Team to communicate changes, events and improvements. 
  • Ensures that Client, company and statutory food & hygiene, H&S standards are maintained  
  • Responsible for onsite spending sign off, including stock and staffing  
  • To ensure that paperwork is being correctly completed by all departments.  
  • Ensure that all venue suppliers and technology, inclusive but not limited to staffing agencies, wholesalers and EPOS are working correctly and communicate any problems to Peppermint head office.

Professional Qualifications & Education: 


  • Minimum 5 years professional General Manager or similar experience in a food and drink venue
  • Personal License Holder
  • Budget and HR management experience
  • Comfortable with excel



  • Creating drinks menus, training and concepts
  • Current First Aid Certificate (preferred, not essential)
  • Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate

Business Specific Requirements

Operating Environment & Context

The business is very seasonal. Summer months are incredibly busy, with the busiest periods between May to September, and the month December. Many event sites are outdoor events and festivals on weekends.

Travel & Other Requirements

Travel required to and from events if required during the summer months. It is expected that you will visit certain events to assist the onsite teams, provide in person training and feedback or evaluate performance, system and process.

Overnight stays may be required but in conversation with yourself.
Evening and weekend availability is expected in the summer months during live events to assist where necessary. This can be remote. Overtime is paid.
