Dreamland - Project Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager at Dreamland, to join an energetic company specialising in the field of festivals and events.

Dreamland in Margate is one of the UK’s premier entertainment and event venues in the UK. Peppermint are the bar operators for the main event space, an outdoor area with capacity of up to 7,000. With up to 40 concerts between April and September this is likely to be a full-time role during the summer months along with planning days from Jan – March. The event space includes 6 GA bars (tbc), one VIP, one promoter bar and 4 hireable rooms for between 6 – 20 people. The Project Manager is responsible for the day to day management of the Peppermint bar operations on site and reports directly into the UK Venue Manager and Peppermint Directors. Day to day their role is to ensure operational and licensing procedures are being upheld to an exceptional standard, leading a team with a positive and dynamic “can do” attitude. 

The Project Manager and will be the senior decision maker on site for Peppermint, working closely with the Dreamland team, they are also responsible for all P+L management alongside oversight of rotas, stock ordering and delivering a quality customer experience. You should have strong commercial thinking and exceptional planning, organisation and operational skills and experienced in managing line reports in a hospitality and events setting. This is a new venture for Peppermint and involvement in the planning of the new bars, ranging and set up will be required. 

Salary for this role is £45,000 + KPI based bonus

Key Accountabilities: 

Planning/Advance Responsibilities 

  • Creation and oversight of the project budget including working alongside the finance business partner to ensure 
  • P&L for each event is created. 
  • Working with the Peppermint Production Manager on build and install of new bars including draught equipment, bar infrastructure, tills etc 
  • Oversight of recruitment & staffing procedures, with support from the staffing team 
  • Oversight of drink menus including ranging and retail pricing 
  • Drive the implementation of new and innovative strategies and will ensure a positive experience for all guests and increase SPH. 
  • Work collaboratively with Dreamland to ensure operations are running smoothly and in sync with one another including deliveries and load in schedules. 
  • Communicate changes in processes to all relevant teams. 
  • Support Dreamland in delivering the venue’s strategy and vision. 
  • Ensuring on site budget targets are being met (staffing, stock & fixed costs) 
  • To ensure that company & venue policies are being upheld. 
  • To ensure reporting to Peppermint head office & Dreamland being upheld by all senior management with the relevant detail for each report 
  • Lead weekly update meetings with Dreamland venue team, and Peppermint team. 
  • To control the financial performance of the business, seeking to exceed targets and margins set. 

Operational Responsibilities 

  • Staff rotas in conjunction with staffing department. 
  • Lead weekly update meetings with the Dreamland event team. 
  • Regular feedback/event reports to Peppermint Directors. 
  • Responsible for on-site spending sign off. 
  • Working with Peppermint FOH event managers to ensure customer service. 
  • Onsite contact for sponsorship agent. 
  • Establish and maintain a high standard of staff performance. 
  • Ensure the operations team hold daily shift briefings to keep everyone informed. 
  • Ensure staffing levels are at the correct levels and to budget at all times, and people are recruited into the right roles.  
  • Develop the team to be the best that they can be. Promote from within and build a team spirit to create a happy working environment with a focus on hiring directly.  
  • Perform quality controls, implementing and monitoring team KPI’s & performance ensuring best operational procedures are maintained  
  • Oversight of drink menus to be seasonal, ensuring GP targets are achieved.  
  • Oversight and management of all suppliers and stock management in the venue ensuring suitable stock levels for events and post event counts and reporting  
  • Regularly meet with the Dreamland team to communicate changes, events and improvements.  
  • Ensures that Client, company and statutory food & hygiene, H&S standards are maintained  
  • To ensure that paperwork is being correctly completed by all departments.  
  • To uphold all licensing requirements  
  • Ensure that all venue suppliers and technology, inclusive but not limited to staffing agencies, wholesalers and EPOS are working correctly and communicate any problems to Peppermint head office.

Professional Qualifications & Education: 

ESSENTIAL: 

  • Minimum 4 years professional experience either in venues or events
  • Personal License Holder
  • Budget and HR management experience
  • Comfortable with excel

PREFERRED: 

  • Creating drinks menus, training and concepts
  • Current First Aid Certificate (preferred, not essential)

Business Specific Requirements

Operating Environment & Context

The business is very seasonal. Summer months are incredibly busy, with the busiest periods between May to September, and the month December. Many event sites are outdoor events and festivals on weekends.

Travel & Other Requirements

Travel required to and from events if required during the summer months. It is expected that you will visit certain events to assist the onsite teams, provide in person training and feedback or evaluate performance, system and process.

Overnight stays may be required but in conversation with yourself.
Evening and weekend availability is expected in the summer months during live events to assist where necessary. This can be remote. Overtime is paid.
